Price Book Auditor
Clusters the duplicate item names, shows how much revenue runs through each variant, and drafts the merge list. Also finds what has no cost recorded, so you can see where margin is uncomputable.
The problem
One item, ten names. Every time a technician types a variant, the price book grows another entry, and every report downstream splits that item's revenue across all of them.
Nobody notices until the numbers look strange, and by then nobody can tell which of the ten is the real one.
What it gives you
- Duplicate and near-duplicate clusters, ranked by the revenue running through each variant.
- Variant families, meaning base items with legitimate qualifiers, kept separate as a softer finding, because they are normal in a trade book and flagging them as errors destroys trust in the rest.
- What has no cost recorded, which is where margin is simply uncomputable.
- Zero prices, margin problems, tax inconsistencies and category sprawl.
- A merge worklist in the order worth doing.
What you need
| Tier | API Key Required |
|---|---|
| Reads | The MCP |
| Needs | The free MCP plus a Housecall Pro MAX-plan API key you generate. A read-only key is enough. |
| Re-run | Quarterly. The same drift starts again the day you finish. |
Your first ask
Once it is installed, this is the literal thing you type:
What it cannot do
- It cannot fix your services. Housecall Pro's API makes price book services read-only. Materials and categories can be written, services cannot. That is a limit of their API, not of this tool, so the output is a worklist you apply in the interface.
- It reports what it can compute. On a book where most items have no cost recorded, it says so up front rather than presenting a margin analysis of the minority as if it covered everything.
Updates
Every purchase includes all future updates to this skill. Your book decays continuously, so the same job is worth doing again, and each version gets better at it.
The skill checks this site for a newer version when it runs. That request carries the product name and the installed version, and nothing else. There are no account details, no data from your book, no telemetry of any kind. If the check fails for any reason it says nothing and carries on.
Buying it
Sold in the Margin & Materials pack: $49 one time at half price while the shelf is new for all 5 skills in it. The pack is the unit because a home service company that needs this one usually needs the rest of it the same week. What is in the pack. Lifetime is $149 and covers every pack on the shelf plus every skill added to any of them afterwards.
Questions about whether this fits a particular book go to hello@hcpapi.com , including the question of whether it is worth buying at all.
