Revenue & Margin Report
Revenue by month and by item with canceled invoices excluded and shown, what settled against what is open, and margin computed only where your book records a cost - with that ceiling stated, not papered over.
The problem
Housecall Pro records what every job billed, then makes you click one report screen per question. So the questions that run the business - how did last month compare, which services carry us, what are we making on the work - get answered from memory or not at all.
And the honest version of the margin question is worse than unanswered: margin is only computable where somebody recorded a cost, and on most books most items have none. A report that hides that is lying with arithmetic.
What it gives you
- Revenue by month and by item for any window, with the walk proven complete or called a floor - never a partial total presented as the answer.
- Canceled invoices excluded from every figure and shown as their own line. They keep their full amount in Housecall Pro, and counting them overstates revenue.
- What settled in the window against what is still open, each view named for what it is.
- Margin per service where a cost exists, worst first - and which of your top earners have no recorded cost at all, which is where to start.
- The revenue definition stated plainly (service date, post-discount, pre-tax) so it can sit next to bank and tax numbers without reading as a discrepancy.
What you need
| Tier | API Key Required |
|---|---|
| Reads | The MCP |
| Needs | The free MCP plus a Housecall Pro MAX-plan API key you generate. A read-only key is enough. |
| Re-run | Monthly, at close. |
Your first ask
Once it is installed, this is the literal thing you type:
What it cannot do
- It cannot compute margin your book does not carry. Coverage is stated first and margin lives inside it; a number for the rest would be invented.
- Item revenue splits an invoice evenly across its line items - it ranks your earners honestly, it does not price them individually.
- This is invoiced work, not banked cash, and not an accounting ledger. Each figure names its basis.
- Requires the MCP (v1.13 or newer) and a MAX-plan API key. A read-only key is enough.
Updates
Every purchase includes all future updates to this skill. Your book decays continuously, so the same job is worth doing again, and each version gets better at it.
The skill checks this site for a newer version when it runs. That request carries the product name and the installed version, and nothing else. There are no account details, no data from your book, no telemetry of any kind. If the check fails for any reason it says nothing and carries on.
Buying it
Sold in the Margin & Materials pack: $49 one time at half price while the shelf is new for all 5 skills in it. The pack is the unit because a home service company that needs this one usually needs the rest of it the same week. What is in the pack. Lifetime is $149 and covers every pack on the shelf plus every skill added to any of them afterwards.
Questions about whether this fits a particular book go to hello@hcpapi.com , including the question of whether it is worth buying at all.
